Before enrolling on one of our courses, either by joining a class or by choosing the option of private tuition, we ask students to come in for an level test — there is no level testing for beginners of course!

This test is an essential part of the registration process. It is a language level evaluation which establishes your individual linguistic profile and your level of proficiency. This is turn determines your class days and times, and your language programme if you are choosing to have private tuition.

Please email french@afoxford.com or call us on

Examinations

At the Alliance Française d'Oxford, we are able to prepare students for examinations in French at any and all levels.
If students wish to take their exams through Alliance Française, we can prepare students at our Oxford branch for this before sending them to our London branch to sit the exams.

The Alliance Française was one of the first language providers to adopt the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The CEFR levels are quite broad, and are outlined as follows:

A1   Elementary level
A2   Intermediate level
B1   Proficient
B2   Advanced level
C1   Fluent level

Further details on these levels and their associated examinations can be found on the Alliance Française Paris site.
