The Alliance Française is an international organisation founded by three nineteenth century Frenchmen who changed the world through science, literature and engineering: Louis Pasteur, Jules Verne and Ferdinand de Lesseps. The head office is in Paris with branches all over the world as Alliance Française is dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of French language and culture.
Alliance Française d’Oxford aims to widen access to French language and culture in the Oxford region.
Alliance Française d’Oxford provides classes for both adults and children, as well as private tuition on an extensive or intensive basis. L'Alliance Française is a cultural and linguistic institute founded in France in 1883 by eminent figures in the world of arts, sciences and politics.
It is officially endorsed by the French Government and supported by the French Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs. It is today a worldwide French teaching association with a head office in Paris and a network of over 1,100 branches in 138 countries. Its aim is to widen access to French language and culture; this is why Alliance Française specialises in teaching French as a foreign language.

In these comfortable premises in North Oxford’s Polstead Road, Alliance Française d’Oxford provides classes ranging in size from individual to a maximum of six.
The courses are either tailor-made for the individual — or held in small classes for students of a similar level.
Classes are scheduled weekly, and a course typically follows an academic term.

Our French Tutors
Who are Alliance Française d’Oxford tutors ?
- all native French speakers
- post-graduates from French universities with Masters in either French as a Foreign Language or Masters in French Literature, History, Sciences, Law, Politics and Economics or Philosophy.
They teach :
- general French at all levels of competence
- specialised French (F.O.S - Français sur Objectifs Spécifiques) in the fields of business, law, the arts, and even in Medieval French, as recently requested by an Oxford scholar.
